COLLECTIVE CONCERNS WITH BAWU QRC (pdf)
DownloadA CALL TO ACTION FOR THE 2024 ELECTIONS
As we approach the November election, it’s crucial to understand the power each of us holds. Your voice, your choices, and your values are at stake. Now is not the time to sit back and believe that your vote doesn’t count. It is time to take action, to be heard, and to protect our democracy and freedom.
For those who feel disenfranchised or skeptical about voting, it is imperative to understand that elections are a powerful tool for shaping the future of the country. Every vote contributes to a collective decision on critical issues.
By engaging in the 2024 election, individuals can take meaningful and mindful action to address their frustrations and work towards a more equitable and democratic society.
The 2024 election represents a pivotal moment in American history. Project 25 is a clear indication of what to expect, with far-reaching implications for various aspects of our society.
Outlined below are nine areas of collective concerns identified through a nationwide survey involving over 50 participants:
1. Democracy and Governance
■ Freedom vs. Dictatorship
■ Voting Rights:
Civil and Human Rights
■ Equality vs. Discrimination
■ LGBTQ Rights
Health and Social Services
■ Healthcare Access
■ Social Safety Nets
2. Economic Policies
■ Middle Class Support
■ Wealth Gap
Environmental Protection and Climate Control
■ Climate Action
■ Clean Energy
Foreign Relations
■ Global Alliances
■ National Security
Labor and Employment
■ Job Protections
■ Fair Wages
Economic Inequality
■ Tax Fairness
■ Wealth Distribution
Judiciary and Legal Systems
■ Judicial Independence
■ Legal Protections
The goal is to attract individuals nationwide who are undecided about who to
vote for or have decided not to vote. We intend to have a meaningful and
mindful discussion with direct and purposeful action.
Let me remind you… This election is not just about the President—it is about
the down-ballot as well. Wherever you reside, leadership matters.
3. Please do your research and look at the voting record of your politicians in the aforementioned nine areas. Are they aligned with your values and expectations? If not, make some noise about your concerns, vote smart, and vote fair. Know what is at stake.
We plan to host a series of six sessions to discuss each of these areas in detail
via Zoom with key national speakers. The goal is to simply share and have an
open dialog about what is at stake if Harris not elected.
A no vote for Harris is a vote against our democracy. If you vote for other names
on the ballot, it is a vote for Trump. If you write your name in because you are
trying to prove a point to yourself, that is an ill-informed vote for Trump.
Wake up and stay woke. Get busy and work hard. Vote, and share with others
the importance of exercising your rights—this may be your last chance to do so.
4. Breaking Down and Summarizing Collective Concerns and Potential Impacts.
Democracy and Governance
Democracy itself is on the line. Voter suppression, judicial biases, and potential
shifts towards authoritarianism are serious threats. Voting is essential to preserve our democratic principles and ensure fair and just governance.
● Democratic Stability: The election is seen as a potential turning point for
democracy itself. Concerns are rising about the erosion of democratic norms and the establishment of an authoritarian regime. There is fear of a shift towards a dictatorship, where power is concentrated in the hands of a few.
● Judiciary and Legal System: There is significant anxiety about the stacking
of the courts with partisan judges, which could lead to the reversal of
key civil rights laws and a breakdown of constitutional governance.
Civil and Human Rights
The potential rollback of civil rights is a grave concern. Voting is crucial to protect the progress we’ve made in diversity, inclusion, and social equity. Your vote can safeguard the rights of women, minorities, and marginalized communities.
● This includes threats to voting rights, there is a strong fear that progress made over decades could be undone.
● Racial and Social Inequity: Many fear an increase in racial tensions and a rise in hate crimes. There is concern about a resurgence of white nationalism and systemic racism, which could exacerbate social divisions and lead to civil unrest.
Health and Social Services
● Healthcare: The future of the Affordable Care Act and other health
services is at stake, with millions of Americans potentially losing access
to affordable healthcare.
5. Social Security: There are worries about the potential privatization or
reduction of social security benefits, which could disproportionately
affect the elderly and low-income families.
Economic Policy
● Economic Inequality: The election could result in policies that favor the
wealthy and increase economic disparity. This includes tax cuts for the
rich, deregulation that could harm consumers, and cuts to social services.
● Labor and Employment: Concerns include the potential weakening of
labor protections and an environment that favors big business over
workers’ rights.
6. Environmental Protection and Climate Change
The environment is in peril, and the stakes are high. Without active participation,
policies that damage the environment and accelerate climate change could
continue unchecked. Your vote can help steer the country towards sustainable
and responsible environmental policies.
● There is significant concern about the rollback of environmental regulations,
which could accelerate climate change and lead to greater environmental degradation.
Foreign Relations
If we don’t participate, we risk regressing in our foreign relations, losing
respect and influence globally, and potentially increasing global strife and
war. Voting is essential to ensure that the U.S. remains a respected leader on
the world stage.
International Standing: The election could impact the United States’ relationships with allies and its position on the global stage. There is fear
of a retreat from international cooperation and an alignment with autocratic
regimes.
Protecting Democracy: Voting is a way to uphold democratic principles,
ensuring that the U.S. remains a model of democracy for other nations
and continues to promote democratic values globally.
7. Safeguarding Rights: By participating in elections, citizens help protect
civil liberties, which is crucial for maintaining the U.S.’s image as a defender
of human rights and freedom worldwide.
Influencing Foreign Policy: Voters influence the direction of U.S. foreign
policy, impacting decisions on international trade, defense alliances,
and global environmental agreements.
Shaping Global Leadership: Each election shapes the U.S.’s role in global
leadership. Voting ensures the country upholds a vision of justice,
equality, and sustainability that can inspire and lead the international
community.
Labor and Employment
● Labor rights and economic equality are at risk. The erosion of job security
and widening economic divides can be mitigated by voting for policies
that protect workers and promote fair economic practices. Your vote can
help ensure that everyone has a fair chance at prosperity.
Economic Inequality
● Economic policies favoring the wealthy have increased inequality. By
voting, you can support measures that address this imbalance and
promote fairness and opportunity for all. Your vote is a powerful tool to
combat economic injustice.
Judiciary and Legal Systems
● The impartiality and integrity of our judicial system are at risk. Voting for
representatives who will appoint fair and balanced judges is critical to
maintaining the rule of law and justice for all.
8. The Broader Impact
This election is about more than party politics or individual candidates. It is about
preserving our democracy and ensuring that our freedoms and values are upheld. Not voting or remaining disengaged could lead to irreversible changes that would profoundly impact future generations.
As I close out this discussion on what is at stake, I know many of you are frustrated with the current state of affairs. You may not agree with every policy or decision made by the current administration. But know this: in a dictatorship, your vote, your voice, your choices, your values, and even your life might not matter.
Today, believe that “YOU MATTER.” Vote often and vote down ballot. This election is not about Democrats versus Republicans, Harris versus Trump, or Vice President Harris age.
It is about our DEMOCRACY AND FREEDOM.
We must look at individual performances. Take a moment to think about the actions and history of candidate Donald Trump, whose party affiliations, behavior, and legal controversies raise significant concerns. He is a danger to this country. He is a threat to you and youth family.
America, what are we doing? Do we have so much hate for a few that we are willing to destroy our nation? Where is the love, integrity, dignity, pride, and power that define us?
Our future is at stake. We cannot wait. Vote! Harris is our choice to preserve democracy.
Let’s work on a collective agenda to hold this administration accountable and protect our rights and livelihoods.
Our democracy requires our active participation. Your vote matters. Your voice matters.
You matter
Let’s protect our democracy and secure a better future for all. Vote in the 2024 election!
9. FINAL THOUGHTS
Project 2025, also known as Project 25 reflects a broader conservative agenda
aimed at reshaping various aspects of governance and public policy. Its impact on elections, freedom, and democracy will depend on how these proposals are implemented and the extent to which they are balanced against existing protections and public resistance.
Project 25, is an initiative by conservative organizations to prepare policy
recommendations and a governing agenda for a potential Republican
administration in 2025. Here are some key aspects and their potential impacts
on elections, freedom, and democracy:
Key Aspects of Project 2025
1. Election Integrity Measures:
● Voter ID Laws: Strengthening voter ID requirements, which proponents argue is necessary to prevent fraud but critics say can suppress minority voting.
● Poll Watchers: Increasing the presence and authority of poll watchers, which could lead to intimidation and suppression, particularly in minority communities.
2. Judicial and Legal Reforms:
● Judicial Appointments: Continuing to appoint conservative judges who may rule in ways that restrict voting rights and other civil liberties.
● Election Lawsuits: Encouraging legal challenges to election results and processes, which could undermine public confidence in electoral integrity.
3. Regulatory and Administrative Changes:
● Rollback of Voting Rights Protections: Reversing or weakening provisions of the Voting Rights Act, making it easier to implement restrictive voting laws.
● Gerrymandering: Supporting redistricting efforts that favor partisan advantages, potentially leading to less competitive elections and reduced representation for minority communities.
4. Freedom and Civil Liberties:
● Free Speech on Campus: Promoting policies to protect conservative speech on college campuses, which could be framed as defending free speech but may lead to conflicts over academic freedom and institutional autonomy.
● Internet and Social Media Regulation: Proposing regulations to prevent perceived censorship of conservative viewpoints online, which could impact content moderation practices.
The Supreme Court ruling gave the president full uncheck power and authority to do as one pleases without consequences. Christianity as we know it will be gone as will your voice and power… To learn more of what is at stake please take the time to educate yourself on Project 2025-
